About us

Welcome to the new Navy Stokers website.

This new website is a work in progress and new pages/topics will be added as time goes by so we ask for your patience during this process. The old website was in bad need of an update and it had become unworkable due to the bombardment of outside influences. This caused the corruption of the original list of Members and their information and so we are basically starting again from scratch. It had also become apparent that although there were 1752 Members (as at July 2016), the vast majority had not actually updated their personal details for a number of years. In this time much of the information contained on the website was certainly outdated and so it is required that everyone rejoin.

This site is to enable all serving & former Engineering Personnel of the Royal Australian Navy to be able to see where our large community is now residing, serving, and also somewhere they can tell their old stepping oppo's what is going on in their life today. The initial direct contact to other members will not be available so contact with lost oppo’s will be via the Moderators of the website.

The website will be a place where information of upcoming reunions can be posted & local area smokies can be arranged between smaller groups. In other words just a 'website' that people of some similar interests can communicate with each other. While the name of the site is Navy Stokers, all engineering personnel can join i.e. Stokers, Mechanicians, Tiffies, Chippies, & Engineering Officers.

As we grow older we tend to look back on our youth & the mates we made and come to the conclusion that the mates we made from the day we joined Pussers have never left us. While some have passed away, their memory will never die because people like us will ensure that when we are together at reunions or smokies their names will be spoken as if they were still here. Another problem is losing contact with people, so it is hoped that this site will help in 'lost oppos' making contact again.

A few things that you should keep in mind as a member of this site when making a post:

i. don't 'slag' off at anybody;
ii. don't start flame wars;
iii. no porn photos (except those of Stokers being Stokers);
iv. no colorful language; and
v. be patient with the moderators who have to sort out membership approvals.

We all have lives to live away from our computers so if your membership application takes a bit of time to come through don't despair, after all the blokes doing the job are volunteers and on a part-time basis.

To join, click on Contact at the top of the main page where you will be asked for identifying information (none of which will appear on the website until cleared):

i. your full name;
ii. your official number;
iii. your rank (current/last);
iv. serving or retired;
v. preferred email address.

You will then be contacted to confirm your details. Once a member you also have the ability to invite others to join.

The crest that our site uses was put together to represent who we are (it has been modified a few times because the RAN thought it looked too close to their copyrighted one) and the motto is irreverent enough to say something about who we are:

“The Custodians of the Golden Rivet”
